Alejandro Garnacho’s
Manchester United career is ending in controversy with a current stalemate in place.
He is determined to secure a transfer to Chelsea—and has rejected the advances of Bayern Munich in the process.
But United and Chelsea can't arrange a deal for the player mainly because the London club know he wants to go and he isn't in United's plans.
The 21-year-old Argentina international has become a headline figure of United’s turbulent summer, with
Rúben Amorim confirming he is available for sale as the club look to raise funds.
Despite being one of the brightest talents to emerge from the academy in recent years, Garnacho has grown disillusioned after being frozen out of the squad during pre-season.
United initially valued him at around £50 million, but amid pressure to comply with financial sustainability rules, that figure has reportedly been lowered to just over £40 million.
The cut-price valuation has alerted Europe’s elite, with Bayern Munich keen to lure Garnacho to the Allianz Arena as part of their rebuild. However, according to multiple reports, Garnacho has snubbed Bayern’s approach, making it clear his preference is to join Chelsea.
The player’s camp views Chelsea as the “perfect fit,” both stylistically and in terms of project, reported
Sky News.
The Blues are pushing hard for the deal but need to sell attackers, including Christopher Nkunku, to balance the books. Garnacho, for his part, has told United he will only consider Stamford Bridge, effectively narrowing the club’s options.
The transfer saga has already spilled into fan reaction. A Garnacho mural near Old Trafford was recently defaced by frustrated supporters, underlining the breakdown in his relationship with sections of the United fanbase.
For Chelsea, landing Garnacho would represent another coup in their policy of targeting elite young talent. Chelsea though only value Garnacho at £30million as United are desperate to get him off their books.
For United, his departure would symbolise the ruthlessness of Amorim’s rebuild—cutting ties with a player once heralded as the future face of the club.
If the move materialises, Garnacho will follow the path of several United stars whose Old Trafford journeys ended earlier than expected, trading the Theatre of Dreams for a new stage in London.
