Joshua Zirkzee is growing increasingly frustrated with life at Manchester United and could push for a move away in January.
The £43 million Dutch striker, who arrived from Bologna in 2024, has yet to start a competitive match under
Rúben Amorim this season.
Despite being viewed as a key attacking signing,
Zirkzee has managed only a handful of substitute appearances and has been omitted from several matchday squads entirely — including United’s Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town.
His lack of minutes has also cost him a place in the Netherlands national team, with manager Ronald Koeman leaving him out of the latest international squad.
That omission, just months before the World Cup, is said to have left Zirkzee “fuming” and desperate to secure regular football before the January window.
Sources close to the player claim he is “bewildered” by Amorim’s selection choices, especially after a promising pre-season in which he impressed with movement and link-up play, reported
The Sun.
The 23-year-old had expected to form part of United’s front line rotation alongside, but Amorim has not given him a look in since the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
A number of European clubs are monitoring the situation, including Juventus, Napoli, PSV Eindhoven, and ambitious Serie A side Como.
While United would prefer to keep Zirkzee beyond January, they may be forced to consider offers if his situation becomes untenable. The striker is under contract until 2029, giving United strong negotiating leverage — but his current unhappiness could complicate matters.
Zirkzee’s frustration highlights the growing tension within United’s squad as Amorim continues to reshape his lineup.
The Portuguese coach has been clear that “every place must be earned,” but the omission of a player signed for a major fee is raising eyebrows among supporters.
Unless Amorim offers him more opportunities soon, Zirkzee’s time at Old Trafford could end far sooner than anyone expected — a potentially costly misfire in United’s rebuilding project.
