Manchester United have taken a firm stance over Joshua Zirkzee’s future, with manager Rúben Amorim making it clear that the Dutch forward will remain at Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old endured a mixed first season in Manchester following his £36 million transfer from Bologna, managing only three Premier League goals in 32 appearances.
His struggles in front of goal, coupled with United’s broader attacking inefficiencies, prompted speculation that he could be moved on after just one year.
Serie A clubs including Juventus, Napoli, and Atalanta were all exploring possible approaches this summer. Napoli’s interest intensified following Romelu Lukaku’s injury, with Antonio Conte believed to admire Zirkzee’s profile, reported Football Italia.
And in the closed window United have signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
United, however, have been decisive. Amorim views Zirkzee as a versatile forward capable of operating across the front line, and believes his intelligence and link-up play fit well with the tactical system being implemented.
Club insiders have suggested that Amorim is keen to give Zirkzee a proper run in the team, especially as he continues to adapt to the pace and demands of English football.

Man Utd's stance over Hojlund

The decision to keep faith with Zirkzee has coincided with another major development: United appear far more open to letting Rasmus Højlund leave.
The Danish striker has been omitted from recent squads and is the subject of strong transfer interest from AC Milan. This has led many to interpret United’s policy as a preference for Zirkzee’s potential upside, even if his finishing requires improvement.
While sections of the fanbase remain unconvinced—citing his modest goal record—others note his work rate and ability to draw defenders out of position, qualities that could flourish if given consistency and confidence.
For now, United are standing firm: Zirkzee is staying put, with Amorim determined to back his man.
The message is clear. Despite the outside noise from Italy, Manchester United are not willing to give up on Joshua Zirkzee. Instead, he is being trusted to grow into a more influential figure in Amorim’s evolving squad, while others, including Højlund, may be heading for the exit door.
