Man Utd players
Manchester United were well off the pace against Hull City going down 2-0 and here is how the players rated with lots of questions now over what went wrong.
Michael Carrick's side were big favourites but the newly-promoted side had a two-goal lead at half-time thanks to strikes from Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy.
Marcus Rashford was brought on for the second half, the first of several changes, but the substitutions made little impact as United slumped to defeat.
Clearly the summer signings failed to find their feet and the old-guard like Bruno Fernandes looked very rusty.

Player ratings

Senne Lammens
Made some good saves in the first half, stopped a well-placed header from Oli McBurnie, but he could do nothing with the two goals. 6
Noussair Mazraoui
Cleared the danger to prevent a dangerous cross in the first half, but he lost possession on a few occasions and looked vulnerable at the back. Carrick may switch to Diogo Dalot next weekend. 3
Harry Maguire
Looked like the only defender who could deal with Hull's physicality and aerial balls at times. Tried his best to drag his team back into the game in the second half, which saw him make runs forward in frustration. He was the only United player to come out of the game with credit. 7
Ayden Heaven
Argued with McBurnie as the teams went down the tunnel at half-time, appearing to suggest he was fouled for the opening goal. However, he was outmuscled and should have done better. He looked dosy and off the pace so needs to quickly get up to speed. 3
Luke Shaw
Although Shaw was alright defensively, he didn't offer much going forward. If he does not have the legs to contribute in attack against Hull, he will struggle even more against better sides this season. 6
Andrey Santos
Made a promising start to the game, demanding the ball from his teammates, but he made some needless fouls and was not dynamic enough. Generally though he was not to blame for the poor performance and was unlucky to be pulled off rather than Tielemans. 6
Youri Tielemans
Expectations were a lot higher for Tielemans but he had a poor debut against Hull. He was very sluggish, slow with the ball and also his thinking in possession which needs to improve considerably. 3
Bruno Fernandes
Attempted a tame shot from 30 yards outside the box out of desperation in the second half. Looked tired at the World Cup and may make another slow start to the season going off his display against Hull. 3
Bryan Mbeumo
Looked the most dangerous of the attacking unit in the first half, albeit that wasn't saying much. He wasn't involved to the same extent in the second half when Rashford came on. 5
Matheus Cunha
Did not look comfortable playing down the middle, and United will hope Benjamin Sesko can get up to speed as quickly as possible. 3
Patrick Dorgu
Attempted three shots by half-time, which was more than any other player, but he lacked quality. Was understandably replaced at the interval by Rashford. 3
Subs
Marcus Rashford
His first act was a defensive header, and his second contribution was a driving run forward down the left wing to win a free-kick. Rashford received huge cheers from the away end as he prepared to come on. 5
Kobbie Mainoo
Didn't lose the ball, which was an improvement. 5
Benjamin Sesko
Provided a focal point, but his teammates did not create any chances. Sesko continues to frustrate in the air considering his height. 5
Diogo Dalot
An improvement on Mazraoui. 5
Shea Lacey
Didn't get involved much. 5
