Manchester United have been given a boost in their bid to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint German who have agreed a deal with another keeper.
Donnarumma, who starred in PSG's recent Champions League victory, has become available due to stalled contract negotiations at PSG, with his current deal expiring in 2026.
PSG is reportedly preparing to replace him with Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, paving the way for Donnarumma’s potential move.
And now the Parisians have agreed a deal to sign Chevalier, casting further doubt over Donnarumma's future.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano relayed information on Monday that Chevalier will sign with PSG until 2030 and that the deal is nearing completion.
United are readying a bid close to €60 million, underscoring their ambition and Ruben Amorim’s specific desire to secure a top-class goalkeeper, reported the Manchester Evening News.
Donnarumma’s international experience, big-match temperament, and commanding presence make him the perfect candidate to anchor United’s defense as they seek to recover from a tough season.
Other clubs such as Manchester City, Newcastle, and Barcelona have also expressed interest, but United’s urgent need and Amorim’s preference position them strongly in the race.
Despite the clear intent, there are several hurdles to clear. United still need to negotiate Donnarumma’s personal terms, ensuring he fits into their wage structure and squad dynamics.
The future of current goalkeeper Andre Onana is also uncertain; while available for transfer, Onana wants to remain at the club and fight for his place.
Alongside Donnarumma, United are also exploring options such as Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, but Donnarumma remains the headline target given his elite status.
Ultimately, securing Donnarumma would signal a major step in Manchester United’s plans to strengthen their squad under Ruben Amorim, with the goal of returning to competitive consistency and European football next season. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the Italian goalkeeper makes Old Trafford his new home.
