Manchester United winger Antony is on the verge of completing a permanent move to Real Betis.
The deal, which has been in negotiations for weeks, is now all but finalized and expected to be announced before the transfer deadline.
According to reports in Spain, the transfer will be structured creatively to accommodate Betis’s financial limitations. Betis will pay around €20 million for 50% of Antony’s rights, with the payments spread over the next two years.
United, who paid £85m to sign the Brazilian from Ajax in 2022, are cutting their losses but retain an interest in his future value.
Antony himself has agreed to take a wage reduction in his first year back in La Liga, a clear indication of his desire to return to Seville, where he thrived on loan last season.
During his time at Betis, Antony quickly became a fan favorite, revitalizing his career under Manuel Pellegrini. He earned the nickname “Antonio de Triana”, forming a dangerous creative partnership with Isco and helping Betis reach the UEFA Conference League final.
His performances contrasted sharply with his difficult spell at Old Trafford, where he struggled to justify his record transfer fee and often faced criticism for inconsistency.
The Brazilian’s determination to rejoin Betis played a key role in the deal’s breakthrough, with Spanish outlet El Correo confirming the Brazilian will become the Andalusian club’s ninth signing of the summer.
His willingness to accept reduced wages and Betis’s promise of a starring role were decisive factors, while United were eager to move him on as part of Ruben Amorim’s ongoing rebuild.
Antony’s return is set to be announced in the coming days, with Betis already preparing a presentation video. For Betis fans, the deal represents the return of a cult hero, while for United, it marks the first major exit from their so-called “bomb squad” of unwanted players.
Though United will not recoup anywhere near the fee they originally paid, the move offers Antony a chance to rebuild his career in a city where he is adored—and where his revival has already begun.
