Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to implement another round of approximately 200 redundancies at Manchester United, as part of efforts to address the club’s £300 million losses over the past three years.
This follows a previous wave of 250 job cuts in the autumn, but despite these measures, United’s financial challenges remain severe.
Employees have yet to receive formal notification regarding their roles, but many expect the announcement soon.

Financial Struggles Despite Investment

Since becoming United’s single largest minority shareholder last year, Ratcliffe has injected £240 million ($300m) into the club, helping to fund redevelopment of the Carrington training complex.
However, high costs both on and off the pitch continue to strain the club’s finances.
Despite Ruben Amorim’s squad needing a major overhaul, United made just one signing in January, bringing in Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for £25 million.
Many of Amorim’s inherited players do not fit his 3-4-3 system, but financial constraints prevented further reinforcements.

Uncertain Impact on Summer Transfers

It remains unclear how much Ratcliffe’s latest cost-cutting measures will free up for the summer transfer market.
Even after offloading 75% of Marcus Rashford’s £365,000-per-week salary through a loan deal with Aston Villa, United operated on a limited winter budget.

Managerial Changes Cost United Over £21m

United’s financial strain has also been worsened by managerial changes.
In November, club accounts revealed United paid £21.4 million to sack Erik ten Hag and appoint Amorim.
  • £10.4 million was spent in compensation to Ten Hag and his coaching staff, including René Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, Pieter Morel, and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
  • A further £11 million went toward Amorim’s signing from Sporting, along with his coaching team—Carlos Fernandes, Jorge Vital, Adélio Cândido, Emanuel Ferro, and Paulo Barreira.
With financial restructuring continuing and summer signings uncertain, United face a challenging period both on and off the pitch as Ratcliffe attempts to stabilize the club’s future.
