Rasmus Højlund could head to Bayer Leverkusen when Manchester United complete Benjamin Sesko's move, with Erik ten Hag still a big believer in the striker.
Ten Hag is at the helm of the Bundesliga champions and could to bring in the 22-year-old who has struggled at United.
Now that Sesko has agreed personal terms at Old Trafford and a deal just needs to be finalised with Leipzig - it could well spell the end for Hojlund.
Tribuna.com reports Leverkusen’s keen interest in Højlund, driven by ten Hag’s belief that he can unlock the striker’s potential.
Signed for £72 million from Atalanta in 2023, Højlund’s United stint has been underwhelming, with just 26 goals in 95 appearances, including a paltry four Premier League strikes last season.
Ten Hag, who nurtured Højlund’s early United days, sees him as a replacement for stars like Florian Wirtz or Victor Boniface.
However, competition is fierce, with Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Serie A heavyweights AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Napoli also interested in Hojlund.
At United, Højlund’s role under Ruben Amorim is uncertain. Amorim’s 3-4-3 system demands a clinical, versatile forward, and Sesko’s 21 goals last season for Leipzig make him a better fit.
Højlund’s raw “street footballer” style, praised by Leverkusen’s Keld Bordinggaard, hasn’t translated consistently, and United’s 15th-place finish last term exposed his struggles.
Another option for United is a straight swap deal with Leipzig for Sesko.
Sesko’s pace, aerial prowess, and link-up play would complement Bruno Fernandes and new wingers like Bryan Mbeumo, potentially outshining Højlund’s output.
For United fans, losing Højlund to a ten Hag-led Leverkusen feels personal, but it could signal a new era. Will Sesko’s arrival justify the move, or are we letting a rough diamond slip away? The Stretford End awaits answers as the transfer window heats up.
