Patrick Dorgu says he liked to get the ball in a more "dangerous position" after he played probably his best match for Manchester United in the
win over Newcastle.
The 21-year-old got the only goal of the game having surprisingly started on the right-wing. His position caught the eye as he has generally been played as a left wing-back by
Ruben Amorim where he has suffered his fair share of criticism.
While many fans have been unhappy with the quality of his crossing since joining from Lecce, Dorgu looked far more comfortable in a more advanced role and was composed on the ball.
"I played in a different position today but I enjoyed it and I’m really happy for the team to get three points," Dorgu said after the game. "It was nice to get the ball in a dangerous position, I think I connected well with my teammates, created some chances.
"I saw the ball dropping and I was free, so it was just let me hit it, and thankfully I hit it really well and it went in."
Dorgu also pointed to the "fighting spirit" of the team which had a long list of players missing but managed a valuable three points.
"You could see the fighting spirit in everyone, we really wanted to give the fans three points and we are really happy to get the three points as well," said Dorgu. "We had a lot of important players out but we sticked together as a team and worked really hard."
Amorim also praised Dorgu for his performance after the game and also pointed to the fact he looked more comfortable in a role where he could take more "risks".
The manager said: "It is the normal life of a player, sometimes you are in a good moment sometimes you struggle, sometimes it depends on the team or the game.
"Maybe the game had a lot of transitions, good for his pace for his ability to drive the ball, he played in a position where he can take more risks, that can help a player like him to not have that responsibility all the time and I think he played well."
While Dorgu also pointed out that he has played on the right wing before. "I've done that at my old team as well, so it's nothing new to me," Dorgu said.
"I knew already a few days ago, so I just tried to remember how to play there. It's the same [as wing-back], just you come inside to your stronger foot, so sometimes it's even easier to attack and connect with the team-mates, so I find it really easy."
