Matheus Cunha has come off the bench and done very well but there is now a danger he could face the same label that
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had, said
Nicky Butt.
Under interim manager
Michael Carrick, Cunha has been substitute in both matches so far which have been huge wins over Manchester City and Arsenal.
But he has come on to good effect to see out the matches, especially against Arsenal where he also scored a screamer.
And Butt says that he is in danger of being branded as a super-sub, who can come on and change games - especially as United don't have much strength in depth looking at the bench.
Cunha’s giving you an option off the bench," said Butt. "He won’t be happy no chance, but if you look at when Darren (Fletcher) was in charge then he had nobody to come on.
"There were the young players who could come on okay but when it’s going badly you need some proper pros on the team who can stick their chest out and go against people.
"Cunha is doing that and he could find himself in a bad position now thinking 'I’m a really good sub to bring on, I carry the ball up the pitch, I get the fouls, I kill the clock when we are winning and I score goals’. He could end up being a super-sub."
Scholes also pointed out that Cunha won't want that role. "He won’t be happy with that though," he said, and added that it was the same for Solskjaer whose impacts from the bench are legendary.
"He wanted to start but when you have four brilliant centre forwards, he did start his fair share of games, I suppose but he became an unbelievable sub as Nicky said because he wasn’t just sat there messing about on the bench, he was watching."
And Butt continued: "Ole won’t have been happy but he did it very well, he was a bright lad very astute with his football knowledge and studied it, I never really did on the bench.
"I just wanted to come on but he said it himself he was a real student of the game. He really concentrated on the bench and when he came on he made a change.
"Also with the Cunha situation, Mbeumo ha been brilliant as a number 9, he has done that job really well, he’s a handful, he’s powerful, quick, he can turn people."
