Former Manchester United star Scott McTominay says what the Reds now have to do to prove themselves under Michael Carrick.
McTominay continues to watch United closely albeit from afar at Napoli and he "wishes them all the best" saying how proud he is of the players during their recent run.
Many United fans were sad to see the hard working midfielder leave in the summer of 2024 especially as in recent times he appears to be exactly the player that they need in the midfielder of the pitch.
And McTominay ahead of Napoli's Champions League clash with Chelsea, said that he is not surprised at how well Carrick is doing as interim manager.
"No I'm not he's such a great guy Michael, I've got so much love and respect for him, Kieran McKenna and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer," said McTominay.
"They helped me so much during that period I was at Manchester United and I wish them nothing but the absolute best and the two results they've had have been amazing especially for me to watch.
"I'm very, very proud of all the players and long may they continue."
But McTominay believes that United now need to go on and prove themselves against more modest opposition now.
He continued: "Those big games against Arsenal and Man City are important but sometimes it is the games which are not so easy away from home against newly promoted teams or teams of so-called lesser stature that are probably just as important.
"So for me I'm looking forward to watching them continuing to do well and wishing them all the best."
McTominay was let go at United when Erik ten Hag was still in charge and he has gone on to prove himself in Italy. He was a key player in helping Napoli to win Serie A last season and he was also named Italian Player of the Season.
