Michael Carrick pointed to what was missing from Manchester United as they had to dig deep for a draw against West Ham.
The United interim manager saw his four match winning streak come to an end but he remains unbeaten after the 1-1 result and the Reds are still in a Champions League place.
It could have been a lot worse had Benjamin Sesko not shown a fine touch at the near post in injury time to slot home.
Afterwards Carrick said: "I think we're a bit disappointed, we definitely weren't at our best and it's at those times when you aren't at your best that you can find a way to keep a clean sheet and maybe take the game and move on.
"So a bit frustrated, we've had five games now and we've been at a really good level, it's a tough place to come, they made it difficult and we didn't have that sharpness or spark really to find the answers."
While the team couldn't find a way to win, Carrick also praised the "spirit".
He continued: "In the end big credit to the boys, the spirit again for the late goal, and when we needed it - it's a great quality to have, so we'll take the point and move on."
Carrick was also pleased for Sesko who scored another late goal.
"Fantastic finish he's done it again," he said. "it's important we threw everything at it at the end, had a lot of fouls on the pitch, could have put more balls in the box with the players that we had.
"Josh (Zirkzee) had a chance that just went wide and then a great finish from Benji so delighted for him again - another big goal for him and a good step.
"From where we were and being together for a short period of time we've obviously had some big highs with the wins and there are times when it doesn't quite go to plan and you take what you can from it."
