Ruben Amorim says his assistant Carlos Fernandes will now direct the squad's set-piece defending techniques.
Fernandes is taking the role formerly held by the club's set-piece coach Andreas Georgson. It comes after United were badly exposed for both goals against Arsenal at corners in the midweek game at Arsenal.

Changes in coaching roles

Georgson, a renowned Norwegian coach who was hired during the summer, remains part of United's coaching staff.
However, he has now stepped back for set pieces, allowing Fernandes to oversee the team's positioning and formations.
Unlike the previous arrangement where Georgson would stand in the technical area for every set piece, he is now seated, and the responsibility has shifted to Fernandes.

United's set-piece defence

Despite the addition of set-piece defensive drills to their pre-match warm-ups, United have been struggling at the back. Both of Arsenal's goals came directly from corners during Amorim's first defeat as United's manager.

Amorim's comments

Amorim justified the rearrangement of set-piece duties by stating that Fernandes is fully capable of handling them.
He also mentioned that Georgson remains involved and ready to assist. He admitted these areas need improvement and it's part of the growth process for the team.

A challenging road ahead

Amorim is fully aware of the challenges ahead, warning about upcoming hurdles. Following the match against Arsenal, Amorim expressed regret for his choice of words during the pre-match press conference and reiterated his expectations for team improvement.
It is still early days for Amorim at the helm of United but the game against Arsenal showed that there is still plenty of work to be done for them to become a side which is challenging for the league again.
And that includes both in attack and defence as they lacked a cutting edge even if they enjoyed plenty of possession in the first half.
Rasmus Hojlund needs more support, Marcus Rashford is too inconsistent and Alejandro Garnacho is a willing runner but so far has not been decisive in big games.
