Manchester United captain
Bruno Fernandes has reportedly offered to leave the club this summer in a move that has shocked fans and intensified the sense of transition at Old Trafford.
According to multiple reports following United’s
1-0 Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Fernandes is said to have told key figures at the club he would be willing to move on if it helps accelerate the rebuild under Rúben Amorim and INEOS’ sporting leadership.
The Portuguese playmaker, 30, is understood to be frustrated by the team’s trajectory and lack of competitiveness on the biggest stage.
“He’s not angling for a move, but Bruno made it clear — if United want to go in a different direction, he won’t stand in the way,” a source told
talkSPORT.
Fernandes was one of United’s few consistent performers during an otherwise chaotic season, registering 12 goals and 11 assists across all competitions. He was visibly emotional after the
Europa League final loss in Bilbao and reportedly spoke with club executives in the days that followed.
Amorim, who previously coached Fernandes at Sporting CP, is known to respect the midfielder’s leadership and work ethic, but United’s financial realities and lack of Champions League football next season could force tough decisions.
Reports suggest that offers in excess of £50–60 million would be considered.
“The club can’t rule anything out this summer,” one insider told ESPN. “Everyone has a price.”
Clubs in Saudi Arabia, Italy, and Germany have shown interest in Fernandes, while whispers in Spain suggest Barcelona are monitoring the situation, especially if they move on from players like Raphinha or Frenkie de Jong.
Fernandes’ agent, Miguel Pinho, has yet to comment, but it’s expected that conversations with United leadership will continue over the next few weeks to clarify his role in the club’s rebuild.
If Fernandes departs, it would mark the end of a four-year spell during which he became one of United’s most important players and emotional leaders — and further underscore that no player is untouchable under the new regime.
