Bayern Munich have made a surprising approach to sign
Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho as an alternative to their primary target, Liverpool’s Luis Díaz.
The 20-year-old
Argentine winger, known for his flair and direct style, has caught the attention of the Bundesliga giants, who are intensifying their summer transfer activity under manager Vincent Kompany.
Bayern’s interest in Garnacho hinges on their pursuit of Díaz, with Liverpool rejecting an initial £56m bid and a subsequent £59m offer for the Colombian.
Liverpool’s firm stance that Díaz is not for sale, despite his openness to a move, has prompted Bayern to explore Garnacho as a contingency plan.
Garnacho, who was dropped from United’s squad last December but earned praise from manager Ruben Amorim for adapting to his 3-4-2-1 system, is reportedly open to staying in the Premier League.
However, United are willing to consider realistic offers for the young star and are now understood to be willing to listen to an offer of around £40 million, according to
reports. This interest comes as United face financial constraints under Profit and Sustainability Rules, having spent £133.5m on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Selling Garnacho could fund their pursuit of a striker like RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.Bayern’s pursuit of a winger follows their failure to sign Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams, with Díaz remaining their top target.
Liverpool value Díaz at over £86m, and Bayern are preparing a €75m bid, potentially including a sell-on clause.
If the Díaz deal falters, Garnacho’s 7 goals and 5 assists in 50 appearances last season make him an attractive option.
His contract, running until 2028, gives United leverage, but Bayern’s financial muscle and Champions League appeal could tempt the player.
United’s pre-season tour, starting against West Ham on July 27, 2025, in New Jersey, adds urgency to resolving Garnacho’s future.
With Marcus Rashford’s loan to Barcelona and potential sales needed to balance the books, United face a critical decision on whether to cash in on their young star or retain him for Amorim’s rebuild.
