All eyes are on
Antony tonight for Betis in what could be one of his final games before a permanent move — or a return to
Manchester United.
The Brazilian has spent the final stretch of the 2024/25 season on loan at Betis where his performances have been spectacular and he has even been described as the best ever January transfer window ever in Spain.
He has become the talisman of the side and led them to the final of the Conference League where they now face Chelsea.
Tonight’s match could act as a final audition, with Betis reportedly interested in keeping him, but unable to meet United’s asking price,
it is reported.
A loan extension or reduced fee has been floated, but United’s transfer strategy under Rúben Amorim and INEOS is expected to be ruthless and financially pragmatic this summer.
“Antony’s time at United has never truly taken off,” said former midfielder Paul Ince. “This loan was about proving he can still deliver — and tonight’s game might be crucial.”
The 24-year-old’s future has become even more uncertain amid reports that Amorim doesn’t see
Antony as a tactical fit, preferring wingers who offer more versatility and pressing energy.
Antony’s lack of consistent end product has been a recurring criticism since his £85 million move from Ajax in 2022 — and it’s clear he’ll need to impress to stay in the Premier League.
Despite his club struggles, Antony was named in Brazil’s Copa América 2025 squad by Carlo Ancelotti, a decision that underlines the belief in his raw talent at the international level.
“He’s got something special — but he needs structure and confidence,” Ancelotti said. “Let’s see what he can offer Brazil.”
For now, all eyes will be on his performance tonight in La Liga. A strong display could persuade Betis to push for a deal — or catch the attention of other European clubs watching from afar.
Either way, Antony’s next move could be a career-defining one.
