Ruben Amorim says
Manchester United need more "crazy guys" like Matheus Cunha to tackle the current crisis.
He offered a revealing insight into the current struggles at the club during an interview with former United player Owen Hargreaves, following the recent 3-1 defeat to Brentford.
Facing mounting pressure after failing to secure back-to-back league wins since his arrival,
Amorim made it clear he believes the squad lacks a certain type of personality.
"We have a lot of players that they were here for many years and we are struggling, so that is always in your mind," Amorim told Hargreaves. "It's not just the leaders, we need leaders, but sometimes what I'm thinking is we miss some crazy guys, you know?"
Amorim used new signing Matheus Cunha as an example of the mentality he is seeking.
He said: "I think Cunha is a little bit like that. He's a guy that is a good guy but he doesn't care who you are. He can play wherever and he will go with the ball. This kind of feeling, we need that."
Hargreaves has previously commented on Amorim’s controversial tendency to be brutally honest in his press conferences, noting his "amazing communicator" trait that sometimes results in him being "too open."
This time, however, the focus was on the on-field problems, with the manager lamenting the team's inability to impose their playing style.
Amorim confirmed his dedication to his system, despite the criticism. He said: "It is always the same, when we win it's not the system, when you lose it's the system.
He also said that his aim is to get the team back into Europe, although he admitted he wasn't sure how it will work out.
"I don't know what is going to happen. We are going to play better, that is my feeling," he stated.
