Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has insisted he will not resign, despite increasing pressure following the club’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham United.
The result on Sunday leaves the Red Devils 16th in the Premier League with just one match left to play.
Speaking after the disappointing performance at Old Trafford, Amorim faced questions about his future amid growing unrest from supporters and scrutiny from the media.
While he admitted the current form is not acceptable, he made it clear he has no intention of walking away.
“We need to perform or else they [the board] will change us. That is a normal thing. But I’m not going to give up,” Amorim told the BBC post-match.
Since taking over in November 2024, Amorim has overseen a turbulent campaign.
Despite a decent run in the Europa League, where United will face Tottenham in the final on May 21, league results have been disastrous.
United have managed just 10 wins in 37 Premier League games, raising serious concerns about the direction of the club under his leadership.
The latest defeat to West Ham further underlined issues with the team’s defensive shape and attacking fluidity.
The atmosphere at Old Trafford was tense, with some sections of the crowd audibly voicing their frustration as the full-time whistle blew.
Amorim has reportedly been given the green light by United’s board — including co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe — to oversee a major squad rebuild this summer, regardless of whether United win the Europa League or not. However, his margin for error is now razor-thin.
The club has already been linked with multiple incomings and outgoings, but many believe Amorim’s tactical ideas haven’t yet translated into consistent performances on the pitch.
While he remains defiant in the media, insiders suggest that a Europa League defeat to Spurs could still force United into a rethink, especially with big decisions looming about player sales, transfer targets, and long-term strategy.
For now, Amorim remains focused on finishing the season strongly — but he knows the pressure is mounting.
