Ruben Amorim agrees that
Manchester United teammates need to know why
Bruno Fernandes feels they are not giving their all.
Fernandes gave an interview to Portuguese television where he said he was "sad" that other players in the team were not giving the same level of commitment to the club.
It came as the 31-year-old was also hurt after claiming the club wanted to cash in on him and sell him last summer.
Asked about Fernandes' comments, Amorim responded: "I think it is fair, he just spoke about his feelings and he needs to answer that, it's not for me.
"I think he is an example that he gives everything, he puts everything on the line in every training and every match and in that department he is special so I think he has that feeling.
"We need to step up and to have also that feeling. So we need to ask him because I think he's a big example in the group. I mean because he's the captain."
And he reinforced the importance of Fernandes to the team. Amorim continued: "He spoke his feelings and I think again, I think when I watch Bruno training and playing.
"He is a special character. And I think the numbers, the amount of games, everything proof that is a different level."
Fernandes had told Portuguese media of his commitment to the cause: “I’m always available, I always play, good or bad. I give my all. Then you see things around you, players who don’t value the club as much and don’t defend the club as much… that makes you sad.”
It was Al-Hilal who expressed most interest in signing Fernandes last summer, they reportedly were ready to pay a fee of about £100m and wages of up to £700,000 a week.
"From the club I felt it was, 'If you go it's not so bad for us'. It hurts me a bit," said Fernandes after he turned down the bumper pay deal.
