Fresh optimism has emerged surrounding Manchester United winger Amad Diallo’s recovery from a season-disrupting injury.
The 22-year-old Ivorian suffered an ankle injury in training back in February, which head coach Ruben Amorim initially feared would sideline him until the season’s end.
The blow added to a tough campaign for the Reds, with Amad—tied as the team’s second-highest scorer with nine goals—having been a standout performer and a consistent starter in every Premier League game under Amorim’s management.
This regular role marked a sharp departure from his limited opportunities under previous manager Erik ten Hag, who frequently bypassed the young talent.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently shared encouraging news via X (previously Twitter), suggesting Amad’s rehabilitation is outpacing expectations.
“Amad Diallo, progressing well in his recovery after injury and currently understood to be ahead of schedule,” Romano posted. “Manchester United staff cautious as they won’t take any risks... but there’s a real chance for Amad to be back on pitch before the end of the season, around May.”
This aligns with comments from Amorim, who hinted at a potential return in the season’s final stretch. “Even Amad, we will see in the end of the last month,” the coach remarked. “I don’t want to say anything definitive, but I have the hope to have Amad before the season finishes.”
Amorim also provided updates on other squad members. “Lisandro (Martinez) is out. Kobbie (Mainoo) can return. (Harry) Maguire we have to be careful with. Manu (Ugarte) will return. I think Luke Shaw and Mason Mount can return also.
"They are definitely going to return, especially Mason Mount,” he added, outlining a mixed injury picture as United aim to finish the season strongly.
United are struggling in the league, with Nottingham Forest next up on Tuesday after the international break and they will be keen for three points.
