Youth star McEvoy shows why he should be given first team chance in Man Utd U18s 3-0 win

Highly-rated youth star Jay McEvoy headed home for Manchester United U18s in a 3-0 victory over Everton.

McEvoy has made a name for himself at academy level for United as a defensive midfielder who can get forward and get goals - and showed it again.

It was the first win of the leageu season and came in convincing fashion at Finch Farm.

Jariyah Shah opened the scoring in the first half before 17-year-old McEvoy doubled United's advantage shortly before the hour mark.

McEvoy continues to show tactical awareness beyond his years and an ability to time his runs to get in the box which suggests that sooner rather than later he will be pushing for a place in the first team.

Substitute Louie Bradbury added a third in stoppage time to seal another impressive result for Darren Fletcher's side.

The victory follows Tuesday's 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic in the U18 Premier League Cup, giving United back-to-back wins after their narrow opening-day defeat to Manchester City.

There were two changes to the side that beat Charlton, with Jayden Ngwashi and McEvoy returning to the starting line-up.

United started brightly and looked the more dangerous side during the opening stages.

Junior Brown had an early run halted by the offside flag, while United continued to find space down the left through Edson De Jonge-Seiros.

McEvoy thought he had opened the scoring after finishing a well-worked move from a short corner, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

United eventually made their pressure count.

De Jonge-Seiros beat his marker on the left before delivering a cross into the box. Everton goalkeeper Teddy Wilcox could only partially deal with it and, after the ball was cleared into Shah's path, the midfielder produced a composed first-time finish to put United ahead.

Everton responded and Charlie Hardy was called into action, producing two important saves, including a strong stop to deny Rodney Aduda's header.

But United remained in control.

Jaume Camacho went close to extending the lead, while Camron Mpofu was denied after looking to capitalise on a loose backpass.

United continued to create chances before half-time, with Brown shooting over after good work from Camacho and Jacob Watson seeing an effort blocked following a corner.

Camacho was again involved as United dominated possession and territory, but Fletcher's side had to settle for a one-goal advantage at the break.

United quickly took control again after the restart. Wilcox was forced into saves from Camacho, De Jonge-Seiros and Ngwashi as United pushed for a second goal.

Everton briefly threatened when Hardy had to deal with a dangerous cross and then make a close-range reaction save.

And United soon doubled their advantage. Watson delivered an excellent corner to the back post and McEvoy rose to head into the bottom corner, making up for the goal that had been ruled out earlier in the game.

The second goal gave United greater control, with Fletcher's side managing the game well while continuing to threaten.

Emmanuel Ziro was introduced from the bench and quickly tested Everton, while Brown was later sent through by Ziro but was denied by Wilcox.

Jacey Carrick also forced a save with a late free-kick.

Everton pushed forward in search of a way back into the game and Dafi-Tomos Pemberton volleyed wide after being put under pressure by substitute Harley Emsden-James.

But it was United who scored again. In the second minute of stoppage time, Bradbury latched onto a ball over the top and produced a composed finish beyond Wilcox to complete the scoring.

The result gives Fletcher's side their first league victory of the campaign and follows the midweek win over Charlton.
