Man Utd vs Ipswich news: Mainoo and Martinez set to return to side with Mount fit for bench

Lisandro Martinez is set to return to the Manchester United defence to provide more experience against Ipswich with Kobbie Mainoo also slotting back into midfield.

Mason Mount is also back fit and will be on the bench while injured new signing Carlos Baleba will have to wait for his debut.

Michael Carrick's side return to Old Trafford looking to respond after their disappointing 2-0 defeat at newly-promoted Hull City on the opening weekend.

United struggled to turn possession into goals in that game, leaving Carrick with some important selection decisions ahead of the club's first home fixture of the season.

Mainoo and Martinez both returned later to preseason training after their World Cup commitments but are now ready to play.

Mount has returned to training after his recent injury and is back in contention for the matchday squad.

Carrick confirmed the midfielder had trained with the group this week, describing his return as a "real positive".

Lisandro Martinez is likely to return to the side ahead of Ayden Heaven.

The Argentine was on the bench for the opening game against Hull and is set to play alongside Harry Maguire as Carrick looks for a response following the defeat.

Martinez's ability to bring the ball out from the back and play through the opposition could be particularly valuable against an Ipswich side expected to make life difficult for United at Old Trafford.

Diogo Dalot is also among those competing for a recall to the defence ahead of Noussair Mazraoui.

Marcus Rashford could also be handed his first start since returning to the first-team squad.

The forward came off the bench against Hull after being reintegrated into Carrick's plans and could now be given the opportunity to start against Ipswich.

Rashford could come in on the left, with Bryan Mbeumo expected to operate on the opposite flank.

That would leave Bruno Fernandes in the central attacking role behind Matheus Cunha.

Benjamin Sesko is continuing to build his fitness following a shin problem and could again have to settle for a place among the substitutes.

Kobbie Mainoo is another player set for a recall.

The midfielder did not start the defeat at Hull, while summer arrivals Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos struggled to make the impact Carrick would have wanted in midfield.

Mainoo could therefore come into the side as Carrick considers changes following the opening-day defeat.

United supporters will have to wait to see Baleba in action following his move from Brighton.

The midfielder joined the club with an ankle problem and Carrick has confirmed he could be unavailable for around another two or three weeks.

Carrick stressed that the issue was already known about and is not considered a major concern, but Baleba will not be involved against Ipswich.

There was less positive news regarding Amad Diallo.

The winger will miss the Ipswich game and Carrick has confirmed that he will be unavailable for "a little bit longer".
