Man Utd U18s winger Ajayi: Here's why Reds see big future after he signs long-term deal

Talented winger Noah Ajayi has terrorised defences for Manchester United U18s and has the skill to flourish in the first team.

The 17-year-old has been rewarded for his rapid development by signing a new long term contract at United.

He has become an important player for Darren Fletcher’s Under-18s and gained valuable experience with the Under-21s.

Ajayi was one of the stand-out performers during United’s run to the FA Youth Cup final last season, making a series of important contributions as Fletcher’s side progressed through the competition.

His performances also earned him opportunities at Under-21 level, giving the teenager an early taste of playing against older and more physically developed opponents.

One of the first things that stands out about Ajayi is his physical profile.

The Hamburg-born forward is a tall, powerful winger, standing at around 6ft 2in, but his size does not prevent him from being comfortable carrying the ball at speed. He has the balance and agility to change direction quickly and attack defenders from wide positions.

His biggest strength is arguably his ability to drive at defenders.

Ajayi is particularly dangerous when he receives the ball in space and can turn and run at the opposition. He is comfortable operating from the left, where he can cut inside, but has also shown the versatility to play from the opposite flank or through the middle.

He is also able to use both feet, making him less predictable when taking on opponents. That allows him to shift direction quickly and create shooting opportunities rather than always looking for the same route inside.

There is also a directness to his game. Ajayi is not simply a winger who wants to receive the ball and recycle possession.

His finishing is another part of his appeal. He has shown an ability to strike the ball cleanly and has contributed goals during his development with the Under-18s. His combination of power, dribbling and finishing gives him the profile of an inside forward as much as a traditional winger.

Ajayi's progress has been particularly notable because he has already been trusted with opportunities beyond his age group.

He made his Under-21s debut in April 2025, coming off the bench against Reading, before making his Under-18s debut the following day against Nottingham Forest. He subsequently made another appearance for the U21s before the end of that season.

That experience has continued to be important as he develops physically and tactically.

Ajayi has also represented Germany at youth international level, having been born in Hamburg, adding international experience to his growing list of achievements.

For United, the new contract represents an important step in protecting the development of a player who has already shown plenty of potential.

The club states: "Ajayi was a stand-out for Darren Fletcher’s Under-18s side last season, making important contributions to help the young Reds reach the FA Youth Cup final. The youngster has also featured for United’s Under-21s.
