Ibragimov fires home after stunning length of pitch move as Man Utd U21s beat Brentford

Amir Ibragimov hit a stunning goal in a move which stemmed the length of the pitch in a 3-2 win for Manchester United Under-21s over Brentford.

United continued their perfect start to the Premier League 2 season and came from behind after Isaac Holland scored midway through the first half for the visitors.

Amir Ibragimov levelled just before half-time after a brilliant counter-attack from Yuel Helafu, before Helafu put United ahead shortly after the restart.

Victor Musa then added a third with 15 minutes remaining, leaving United in control despite Holland pulling another goal back for Brentford late on.

The result means United have now won all three of their opening Premier League 2 fixtures and remain the only side in the division with a perfect record.

The opening 20 minutes were relatively quiet, with Brentford sitting deep at times and United dominating possession.

The hosts were unable to turn that control into a breakthrough, though, and Brentford struck against the run of play.

Joseph Wheeler-Henry drove forward before delivering a dangerous cross into the box, and he was involved again moments later when his first-time delivery found Holland, who finished past Cameron Byrne-Hughes.

United were dealt another blow shortly before the half-hour mark when Samuel Lusale was forced off after picking up an injury while challenging for the ball.

His replacement, Bendito Mantato, quickly became involved in United’s attacking play and nearly won a free-kick on the edge of the box, although the referee waved away his appeals.

The equaliser arrived moments later.

United broke quickly, with Helafu racing forward before finding Ibragimov on the edge of the area. The striker kept his composure to drill a low finish into the bottom corner and send the Reds into half-time level.

United came flying out after the interval and completed the turnaround soon afterwards.

Helafu collected possession on the right, cut inside onto his left foot and unleashed a powerful effort which took a slight deflection on its way past Aidan Stokes.

Brentford almost responded immediately when Holland broke through and struck the post, but United continued to create chances.

Ibragimov went close to adding a second with a header from Jim Thwaites’ cross, while Harry Amass tested Stokes from distance.

The third goal eventually arrived with 15 minutes remaining.

Jack Fletcher picked out Musa on the edge of the penalty area and the forward made no mistake, striking first time and leaving Stokes with no chance.

Byrne-Hughes then made several important saves to preserve United’s two-goal advantage, but Brentford reduced the deficit when Holland scored his second with around 10 minutes remaining.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser late on, but United held firm to secure another three points.

Lawrence’s side have now made a perfect start to their Premier League 2 campaign, winning all three matches and maintaining their position as the division’s only team with a 100 per cent record.
