Man Utd target Tchouaméni
Aurélien Tchouaméni is moving into pole position for a move to Manchester United and here are his strengths but there are also downsides to his transfer.
The Frenchman has become a cornerstone of Real Madrid's midfield in recent years since the departure of Casemiro but there has been a seismic shift in strategy at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Following two consecutive seasons without major silverware, club president Florentino Pérez has authorized a ruthless squad overhaul.
To finance targets like Erling Haaland, Madrid must execute a major sale to balance the books and satisfy financial regulations.
Adding to this institutional shift is the tactical philosophy of incoming manager José Mourinho. The Portuguese tactician reportedly prefers a more creative, progressive distributor at the base of his midfield rather than Tchouaméni’s purely defensive profile.
It means the Frenchman is no longer deemed indispensable. Madrid will not publicly tarnish his market value by explicitly labelling him "for sale," the directive inside the club's Valdebebas offices is clear: they are ready to listen to astronomical offers.

Will Tchouaméni be value for money?

Here is the basis of the problem for United as Tchouameni would be available but for a price that would question whether it would make sense with alternatives on the market.
Tchouameni is quality defensive player but he has little creativity as is shown by the fact that Mourinho is willing to sell him.
United, backed by INEOS, has placed Tchouaméni at the absolute top of their summer wishlist. Old Trafford is desperately searching for an elite, long-term successor to Casemiro.
Following missed opportunities on other European targets, United are preparing a formal opening bid expected to exceed €100 million (£85 million).
While rival English giants like Liverpool and Manchester City remain highly attentive to the situation, United are currently driving the narrative.
Their sporting project positions Tchouaméni as the undisputed anchor of a rebuilt, high-intensity midfield, a role that offers him guaranteed status that is no longer assured in Madrid.
Despite a shared willingness between Madrid's board and English suitors to talk business, the operation faces substantial hurdles.
Having invested heavily to sign Tchouaméni from Monaco, Pérez is demanding a minimum of €100 million. Madrid will not consider discounts, meaning any suitor must fully commit to a blockbuster fee.
The second major obstacle lies with the player himself. Privately, Tchouaméni remains deeply committed to staying at Madrid and wants to fight for his place under Mourinho.
His current contract runs until June 2028, giving him significant leverage. Furthermore, his current salary in Spain represents a massive financial commitment.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has also noted that Premier League clubs would have to meet Tchouaméni's high financial demands.
So as a conclusion United on a positive side they could sign a talented defensive midfielder that could be the backbone of the side and provide the building blocks for Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes to further develop play.
But the downside is that he would cost a lot and have a massive salary, while there is a debate about whether he wants to come and he is limited in his style of play as he will add little creativity.
