Crysencio Summerville tells of "aiming for the very highest level" with
Manchester United in talks to sign the winger.
United have stepped up their interest in the West Ham player with the 24-year-old emerging as one of one of the leading attacking targets following an impressive campaign and a standout FIFA World Cup with the Netherlands.
Despite the Hammers' relegation from the Premier League, Summerville's performances have only increased interest in his signature, with several clubs believed to be monitoring his situation.
United have made direct contact with West Ham to assess the conditions of a possible deal. While negotiations are still at an early stage, Summerville is understood to be high on the club's shortlist as they look to strengthen the left side of their attack.
And Summerville has never hidden his aim of playing at the very highest level.
While Fulham are another side keen to bring in the winger, United have a clear advantage by offering Champions League football and a side that aims to be competing for the Premier League.
"In everything I do, I aim for the very highest level," he said last month, while in an interview with De Telegraaf in 2022 he said: "One goal I have is that, in the long term, I want to be among the best players in Europe."
His performances at the World Cup have further boosted his reputation, contributing two goals and two assists for the Netherlands before their elimination from the tournament.
Although he failed to convert the final Dutch kick when Ronald Koeman’s side lost on penalties to Morocco in the last 32.
"Cry brings pace, but he is also very intelligent between the lines and he retains possession well. I really enjoy watching him play," said Koeman.
The former Leeds winger was also one of West Ham’s best players last season. He surged after Christmas, scoring seven goals in 10 games to lift West Ham’s hopes of avoiding the drop.
There are though doubts over Summerville’s consistency and physicality at the highest level. The winger initially struggled for fitness after joining West Ham in the summer of 2024. He missed much of the 2024-25 season with a hamstring injury and missed a chunk of last season with a calf problem.
Due to West Ham getting relegated from the Premier League, United would be able to sign the winger for a bargain fee of £40milion after a clause in his contract was altered.
Any move, however, could depend on the future of Marcus Rashford. United are expected to reshape their attacking options this summer, and reports suggest a bid for Summerville may only progress if Rashford completes a permanent move away from Old Trafford.
Summerville has built a reputation as one of the Premier League's most exciting wingers. Blessed with explosive pace, quick feet and the ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations, he offers the direct style of play that United have sometimes lacked in wide areas.
For now, talks remain exploratory and no agreement has been reached. However, Summerville's pace, creativity and Premier League experience make him an attractive option as United continue to reshape their squad ahead of the new season.
