Joshua Zirkzee has reportedly informed
Manchester United that he plans to remain at the club this month, quashing rumours of a potential departure during the January transfer window.
The 23-year-old striker, who has struggled for form this season, appears ready to fight for his place and prove himself at Old Trafford.
Zirkzee joined United in a £36.5 million summer move from Bologna, marking the first signing under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s new football hierarchy.
He made an immediate impact, scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Fulham on the Premier League’s opening weekend.
However, his form has since dipped significantly, with just three goals in 27 appearances.
His struggles culminated in a tense moment last month when irate home fans jeered him after he was substituted in the 33rd minute during a 2-0 loss to Newcastle. The Netherlands international stormed down the tunnel but later returned to the bench.
The departure of Erik ten Hag, the manager who signed him, further fueled speculation about Zirkzee’s future. Yet, according to Sky Germany, the forward has no plans to leave this winter.
Determined to Succeed
Zirkzee is reportedly committed to turning his fortunes around at United. He believes he has the ability to succeed in English football and is determined to win over manager Ruben Amorim and the fans.
While Juventus have been linked with the Dutch striker—given his previous success in Serie A—the report suggests there have been no formal talks between the Italian club and United.
United’s Transfer Plans
Zirkzee’s future could face renewed scrutiny in the summer, particularly as Manchester United accelerate their search for attacking reinforcements before the January window closes.
United are reportedly making concrete efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani. Direct talks with the 26-year-old’s representatives have already taken place, and discussions with PSG are expected to follow.
The club is reportedly eager to secure Kolo Muani on an initial loan deal with an option to buy in the summer. However, they face stiff competition from AC Milan, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Juventus, and Tottenham, all of whom are reportedly interested in the French forward.
While Zirkzee is committed to staying at Old Trafford for now, his situation could evolve depending on United’s transfer activity. With Kolo Muani and other high-profile targets on their radar, the striker’s battle for a place in Amorim’s plans may intensify in the coming months. For now, Zirkzee remains focused on proving himself and reigniting his United career.
