Manchester United manager
Ruben Amorim has vowed to field his strongest side for Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Arsenal, aiming to build on the momentum from their impressive 2-2 draw at Liverpool last weekend.
United’s performance at Anfield was their best under Amorim, and the Portuguese coach is keen to maintain the belief and mentality his players demonstrated.
Despite
United sitting 13th in the Premier League, just seven points above the relegation zone, Amorim is prioritizing the FA Cup over preserving players for upcoming league games against Southampton and Brighton.
“In this moment, I’m living day by day,” said Amorim. “We’ve had a week without a game, we had a day off [after Liverpool], and we’ve been able to work with the team.
“So it doesn’t make sense to rest players now. We need to follow the last performance and put out the best team. I’m rotating less now because I feel the players are at the same level, although sometimes I’ve had to pick fresher legs.
“I didn’t rotate for the sake of it before—I was trying to find the best solutions to win. Now, the focus is on selecting the strongest team to win the next game.
“We want to win the FA Cup, and you never know what can happen in this competition. Sometimes, winning these big games can change everything, so my focus is on this tie.”
Goalkeeper Change and Training Boost
Despite his commitment to fielding the strongest possible side, Amorim confirmed that backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir will replace André Onana for the Arsenal clash.
Amorim also highlighted a renewed sharpness and confidence among his players in training following the Liverpool draw.
“I felt it was different,” said Amorim. “You can push them more, the environment is better, and they felt the confidence from their performance at Anfield.
“But we need to show that again in the next game. They’re open to learning, and that’s been a good feeling this week.”
With the FA Cup offering a potential silver lining in a challenging season, Amorim’s determination to go all out against Arsenal underscores the importance of the competition. A victory at the Emirates could not only boost United’s morale but also set the tone for a stronger second half of the season.
