Manchester United’s pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has become a long drawn out saga and here is the latest on the move while Rashford continues to seek an exit.
Talks are said to be ongoing but a deal is 'not imminent' and there have been 'no significant developments' in negotiations, said The Mirror over a possible Mbeumo move from Brentford.
The 25-year-old enjoyed a standout 2024/25 campaign, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists in 38 league appearances, establishing himself as one of the division’s most productive attackers.
His performances have made him a priority target for United’s new manager, Rúben Amorim, who is seeking to revitalize an inconsistent forward line.
United’s interest is reciprocated: Mbeumo has made it clear he wants to move to Old Trafford, rejecting interest from other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, Newcastle, and Arsenal.
Personal terms are believed to have been agreed in principle, leaving the fee as the primary stumbling block. United’s most recent offer—£55 million plus £7.5 million in add-ons, totaling £62.5 million—falls short of Brentford’s £65 million valuation, with the Bees also demanding a higher proportion of the fee upfront
Some reports suggest Brentford’s asking price may now exceed £70 million, reflecting their reluctance to sell a player who contributed nearly half of their league goals last season.
Negotiations have dragged on, with Mbeumo growing frustrated as he returned to Brentford’s pre-season training without a resolution.
United, conscious of their recent history of overpaying for players and sensitive to cost-cutting measures, have vowed to remain patient and disciplined in their approach.
Brentford, meanwhile, are under no pressure to sell, especially after already losing manager Thomas Frank and captain Christian Nørgaard this summer. Director Phil Giles has stated Mbeumo would be content to stay if a deal cannot be reached.
Despite the impasse, there is optimism a compromise can be found. United are reportedly close to a breakthrough, with a deal expected to be finalized around £65 million if the payment structure can be agreed.
The club hopes to complete the transfer before their US pre-season tour begins on July 26, making Mbeumo their third major signing of the window after Matheus Cunha and Diego León.
Meanwhile, Rashford has been spending the summer making overtures towards Barcelona. He has done everything from speaking to YouTubers in Spain, training in the country and telling how much he would like to play alongside Lamine Yamal.
He has also uploaded plenty of videos of him working hard in training but no deal so far has been made.
Barcelona want a loan deal but United are looking to seal a transfer and make at least £40 million. As Barca know that United need to offload the player, they are willing to play the long game and wait until the end of the transfer window.
