Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo has emerged as a significant transfer target for
Manchester United as the club looks to address its goalscoring problems this summer.
The 25-year-old Cameroon international has been a standout performer in the Premier League this season, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists in 35 appearances, making him the joint-fifth highest scorer in the division alongside teammate Yoane Wissa.
Only Chris Wood, Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, and Mohamed Salah have scored more goals than Mbeumo this campaign.
United are understood to be keen on signing a new striker, with Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap also of interest. Delap reportedly has a £30 million release clause in his contract, now active following Ipswich’s relegation
1.
Recent reports indicate that United have "entered the race" for Mbeumo, with The Telegraph claiming the Brentford forward is "high" on new manager Ruben Amorim’s list of targets as he seeks to strengthen his attacking options ahead of next season.
Brentford manager Thomas Frank addressed the speculation in his pre-match press conference, expressing his desire to keep both Mbeumo and Wissa at the club.
Frank said, "I would like them to stay. I love the best players to stay at the club. We all know that we are a selling club, but they are that good. They need to be at a very good club with a lot of money to pay for what they get. They've got quality, both of them.
"They have developed massively, with Bryan he has been here six years. He's definitely done everything he can and just added layers every single season, and he's performing at a top level, both of them are performing at a top level."
While Brentford would prefer to retain their top talents, Frank’s comments acknowledge the club’s reputation for selling key players when the right offer comes in. United’s interest in Mbeumo is serious, and with his proven Premier League record, he is seen as a player who could make an immediate impact at Old Trafford.
