Manchester United host Athletic Bilbao in the second leg of their Europa League clash tonight looing to seal a place in the final.
United won 3-0 in the first meeting out in Spain with Casemiro getting on the scoresheet and captain
Bruno Fernandes netting the other two goals.
As we have seen in European knockout competitions over the years – anything is possible – with Bilbao eyeing up a famous comeback.
Former United star Gary Pallister has warned his old club ahead of tonight’s second leg as
Ruben Amorim’s side look to progress to the Europa League final, where they’d face Tottenham or Bodo/Glimt.
Athletic were dangerous in the opening stages before the tie turned on Dani Vivian’s red card, but they will be missing three of their best attacking players in Nico and Inaki Williams and top scorer Oihan Sancet.
Amorim, however, said “anything is possible” at Old Trafford and United’s form has been inconsistent all season, with Sunday’s 4-3 defeat at Brentford continuing their woeful Premier League form.
United, though, are unbeaten in Europe this season and will be reach the Europa League, setting up a shot at qualifying for next year’s Champions League, if they maintain that record.
Amorim does indeed stick with the same team which started the first leg, perhaps not surprisingly given the result. These players are not just playing to win this semi-final but are also playing for their places in the final on 21 May, should they get there.
