Manchester United have secured the signing of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in a blockbuster £73.8 million (€85m) deal, as confirmed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on X.
The move, finalized today, marks a significant coup for manager Rúben Amorim, who has wasted no time strengthening United’s attack following a disappointing 2024/25 season.
The transfer ends months of speculation, with United outmaneuvering Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle to land the 22-year-old Slovenian.
Sesko’s agreement with United, which includes a contract until 2030, comes after a £65.2 million upfront payment and £8.6 million in add-ons.
The Slovenian international, who scored 21 goals in 36 appearances for Leipzig last season, chose Old Trafford over a lucrative offer from Newcastle, who bid £69.7 million plus add-ons.
His preference for United, coupled with Leipzig’s willingness to honor his ambition, sealed the deal. Romano’s post, featuring Sesko in the new Snapdragon-sponsored kit with the iconic “Here We Go!” declaration, has ignited excitement among fans.
Sesko’s arrival bolsters a revamped United attack, joining recent signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Diego Leon, who collectively cost £130 million.
His physical presence, pace, and clinical finishing—highlighted by 23.1% of his goals coming from outside the box—align perfectly with Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.
The move ends United’s search for a reliable No. 9, with Rasmus Højlund potentially heading to Leipzig on loan as part of negotiations.
Sesko’s decision follows a June 2024 contract extension with Leipzig, adding a year to his deal, but his Tuesday declaration of intent to join United accelerated the transfer.
The signing comes amid mixed reactions on X, with some fans celebrating a new era, while others, like @CFCMods question the £85m price tag given Sesko’s modest four open-play shots in the six-yard box over two seasons.
Nevertheless, this deal signals United’s intent to reclaim Premier League dominance. With Sesko’s debut potentially imminent, Amorim’s project is gaining momentum, setting the stage for an electrifying 2025/26 campaign.
