Manchester United are on the verge of signing Lecce left-back
Patrick Dorgu for £27 million.
The
Red Devils have yet to secure any January signings, focusing instead on outgoings to first have the funds.
However, Dorgu has emerged as their top target to address the pressing need for reinforcements at left wing-back.
Injuries to Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw, coupled with the challenge of adapting Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui to unfamiliar roles, have highlighted the squad's limitations under Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system.
The 20-year-old Danish international has impressed in Serie A, contributing four goal involvements in 20 appearances this season.
Reports suggest United initially bid €30 million (£25.3 million), but negotiations with Lecce have progressed, with the two clubs agreeing on a €32 million (£27 million) fee.
United’s director of negotiations, Matt Hargreaves, was seen meeting Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino in Milan to finalize the deal.
Figures within the club remain optimistic that Dorgu will become the first senior signing of the Amorim era.
Amorim’s willingness to sanction Antony’s loan move to Real Betis is seen as a major indication that the Dorgu transfer is nearing completion.
Antony, who struggled to meet expectations following his £85 million move from Ajax, has been used as a makeshift wing-back by Amorim but is now set for a fresh start in Spain.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed Antony’s departure, stating: “Here we go confirmed: Antony travels to Sevilla tonight to join Real Betis from Man United! Green light after documents approved, loan move until June with NO buy-back clause; salary shared.”
Romano also noted the inclusion of penalty clauses in the loan agreement, ensuring Betis provides Antony with adequate game time.
Antony arrived in Spain on Friday evening, with medical tests scheduled for Saturday.
His departure signals United's readiness to bolster their squad with Dorgu, who is expected to provide much-needed quality and depth in a pivotal position.
