Alejandro Garnacho's potential transfer from Manchester United could be in jeopardy as concerns over his attitude have been raised.
The 20-year-old winger has attracted interest from Serie A leaders Napoli and Premier League side Chelsea, with United reportedly valuing him at no less than £50 million.
However, The Telegraph suggests that both clubs are seeking reassurances about his temperament before proceeding.
Garnacho’s attitude came under scrutiny last month when manager Ruben Amorim dropped him for the Manchester derby following reports of dissent during a Europa League match against Viktoria Plzen.
Additionally, club captain Bruno Fernandes has previously criticized Garnacho’s mentality, mentioning an instance where the player refrained from celebrating a goal against Leicester, allegedly due to perceived loss of fan support.
Despite the speculation, Manchester United are not actively pursuing a sale and remain firm on their valuation. The club has also dismissed the idea of letting Garnacho leave on a cut-price deal this month.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are exploring ways to fund potential signings, reportedly considering the sale of £65 million-rated Christopher Nkunku.
Napoli, fresh from pocketing £60 million from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, have made Garnacho their top target.
However, BBC reports that United have already rejected an approach from the Italian side.
Should the Garnacho deal fail to materialize, Napoli are said to be considering alternatives, including Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi and Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel.
United’s overall transfer strategy remains uncertain, with many players’ futures reportedly in question. When asked about Garnacho’s role at Old Trafford, Amorim offered a positive assessment:
“That is clear. He has talent. I think he has changed the way he sees himself. He’s finding the best way to play in this system and is improving during training.”
This season, Garnacho has contributed eight goals and five assists across all competitions, underlining his potential despite the off-field concerns.
