Chelsea have reportedly joined the race to sign
Manchester United winger
Alejandro Garnacho before the January transfer window closes.
The Blues are said to be plotting a bold move for
Garnacho, following reports that they are also leading the chase for United academy graduate
Kobbie Mainoo.
United are understood to be open to offers for several first-team players as part of efforts to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.
The club is testing the boundaries of financial regulations after spending over £600 million in less than three years, much of it under former manager Erik ten Hag.
As a result, Ruben Amorim could be forced to approve the sale of homegrown players like Garnacho and Mainoo, who would generate pure profit on the club's financial records.
While Marcus Rashford’s potential departure is expected to have significant financial benefits, Garnacho and Mainoo have also emerged as key sale candidates.
According to Mail Sport, United have valued both players at around £70 million, but there has been little indication so far that suitors are prepared to meet those demands.
Napoli have shown interest in Garnacho, with manager Antonio Conte identifying the 20-year-old as the ideal replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is set to join Paris Saint-Germain for £59 million.
Now, according to L’Equipe, Chelsea have entered the mix, with the final weeks of the transfer window expected to be busy at Stamford Bridge.
The report suggests that Chelsea are preparing for departures, with Axel Disasi and Christopher Nkunku likely to leave, paving the way for new arrivals.
Manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly keen to bolster his attack, with early moves being made for Garnacho and Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.
Garnacho is said to be open to joining Napoli, but the Serie A club has not returned with a follow-up bid after United rejected their initial offer.
It remains unclear whether Garnacho would be equally enthusiastic about moving to Chelsea, especially given the rivalry between the two Premier League clubs.
With just weeks left in the January window, United’s resolve—and Garnacho’s future—could be tested further as Chelsea look to secure reinforcements.
