Joshua Zirkzee’s
Manchester United career could be nearly over as he is growing frustrated by his lack of playing time and could seek a move away from Old Trafford in January.
The 23-year-old forward, who joined United from Bologna last year for around £36 million, has struggled to break into
Ruben Amorim’s starting XI.
Despite being tipped as one of Europe’s brightest young strikers, Zirkzee has made just four substitute appearances this season, totalling less than 90 minutes of Premier League action.
According to
The Sun, the Netherlands international is “deeply disappointed” by his limited opportunities and is considering his options ahead of the winter transfer window.
The report adds that Serie A club Roma are keeping close tabs on his situation, while several other Italian and Premier League sides are monitoring developments.
Zirkzee’s frustration has also been compounded by his omission from the Netherlands’ recent international squads.
National coach Ronald Koeman was brutally honest about the forward’s current form, telling reporters: “He’s not good enough at the moment. There are things in his game — turning, passing, intensity — that must improve if he wants to be part of the national team.”
Sources close to the player have suggested he is keen to play regular football to keep his international ambitions alive, particularly with the next World Cup cycle approaching.
Despite his long-term contract running until 2029, Zirkzee is said to be open to a temporary or permanent move if his situation doesn’t improve in the coming months.
Amorim, meanwhile, has been clear that players must adapt quickly to his high-pressing, fluid attacking system — something Zirkzee is still adjusting to.
With the January window approaching, United face a decision: persist with a talented young forward still finding his feet, or cash in early before frustration turns into a transfer request. Either way, Zirkzee’s Old Trafford future is looking increasingly uncertain.
