Mason Mount says how his face probably showed his disappointment when he went off injured in the Manchester derby.
The former Chelsea midfielder was visibly emotional as he was forced off during the first half of last weekend's game against Manchester City.
Addressing fans in a statement on Friday evening, Mount shared his despair: "Words can’t portray how devastated I’m feeling right now.
"You could probably see the look on my face when it happened. I knew what it meant."
United manager
Ruben Amorim confirmed that Mount faces an extended spell on the sidelines.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Amorim said: "I don't know the exact date, but it's going to be for long. And that’s it, it's part of football, and you continue."
Amorim also addressed the club's mounting injury crisis but refused to delve too deeply into the situation, emphasizing his focus on moving forward:
"That is not my department," he said. Despite the challenges, the United manager expressed confidence in Mount's resilience and ability to adapt during his recovery.
"What I can do is to help Mase, to teach him how to play our game when he's recovering, to try to use that time for him to think about different things.
"I think the worst part is that we don't have time to train like we should do when you are recovering from a lot of injuries."
Mount’s statement also conveyed his determination to overcome this difficult period.
He said: "United fans, you may not know me too well yet, but one thing I can guarantee: I will never give up or lose faith.
"I’ve said this before, but I will continue to give everything, get through this tough period, and won’t stop until that’s achieved."
His former Chelsea teammate Reece James offered a heartfelt message of support, reflecting on his own struggles with injuries.
He said: "Not many people understand what you're going through, but I have lived disappointment after disappointment after disappointment.
"It's real tough and lonely, man! Speedy recovery and stay strong, brother! I have 0 doubts you'll be back to your best."
Mount's absence compounds United's injury troubles ahead of their match against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
Luke Shaw remains unavailable, and Matthijs de Ligt is a slight doubt, having missed the midweek defeat to Tottenham due to illness.
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford’s exile from the squad looks set to continue, adding further uncertainty to United's squad selection during this challenging period.
Three Saudi Arabian clubs: Al Ahli, Al Ittihad and Al Qadsiah, have reportedly shown interest in Rashford for a possible loan in January.
