Manchester United’s opening Premier League clash against Arsenal will be a clash between two new strikers who will be making their competitive debuts.
United’s summer signing
Benjamin Šeško came after Viktor Gyökeres chose Arsenal instead of Old Trafford and so there is sure to be plenty of tension in the air.
Sesko arrives at Old Trafford with huge expectations and he will want to make a name from himself from the star.
The 21-year-old Slovenian joined from RB Leipzig in a £76.5m deal, with a further £8.5m in potential add-ons, and is seen as the focal point of
Ruben Amorim’s new-look attack.
Tall, powerful, and deceptively quick, Šeško is known for his ability to dominate aerially, press aggressively, and link up play—qualities United have been missing since the departure of Edinson Cavani.
Amorim has described him as a “striker for the future, but ready to make an impact now,” reported the
Manchester Evening News.
Facing him will be Arsenal’s big-money arrival Gyökeres, fresh from an outstanding season at Sporting CP where he scored 43 goals in all competitions.
The Swedish forward’s relentless work rate, clever movement, and clinical finishing made him one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers this summer.
Gyökeres has already found the net in pre-season, impressing manager Mikel Arteta, who called him “a striker who pins defenders and can destroy you with space.”
This battle is as much about style as it is about substance. Šeško offers a towering presence who thrives in transitions and can hold the ball under pressure, while Gyökeres brings relentless running, sharp turns, and quick combinations around the box.
For United, success may depend on how quickly Šeško can adapt to the intensity of English football, while Arsenal will hope Gyökeres continues his lethal form in front of goal.
Gyokeres is one of the hottest strikers in Europe
Defensively, both sides will be tested. Lisandro Martínez and Raphael Varane will need to contain Gyökeres’s physical bursts, while Arsenal’s William Saliba and Gabriel will be tasked with nullifying Šeško’s aerial threat.
As Old Trafford roars back to life for the season opener, the spotlight will firmly be on these two new number nines. Their duel could set the tone not just for the match, but for the title race narrative in the months ahead.
