Wayne Rooney points to an "unbelievable" attribute that Michael Carrick has which you wouldn't expect as he is a "quiet lad".
Carrick has had a dream start to his spell as interim manager at Manchester United with back-to-back wins against Manchester City and Arsenal.
On Sunday Bryan Mbeumo put them ahead after United had stood firm amid pressure from Arsenal and then in the second half Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha scored memorable goals in the 3-2 result.
And Rooney has told how Carrick is an "unbelievable communicator", which has enabled him to get the best of his players and he highlighted the way he has kept Cunha happy despite the Brazilian starting twice from the bench.
"An unbelievable communicator and I think for the best manager you've got to make sure that every player is happy and wants to play for you," said Rooney.
"I think the last two weeks have shown that where Cunha has come off the bench and he's had an impact twice with an assist for Mason Mount and obviously his winning goal. So his communication will have been spot on."
He pointed out how Carrick is "quiet" but he "understands" the game. "When you look at Michael Carrick you think he's a quiet lad, he's studied the game, he understands the game," said Rooney.
"He's come into that job, knows it is a difficult job to do but what he has done is bring the basics back to Manchester United and players working hard, players getting behind the ball, they're working for each other, running for each other and they are more confident, certainly after last week's win.
"I saw him on Saturday morning and he said he'd actually had to stop them training it was that good, he wanted to try and bottle it up and make sure they had that performance for the following day which we've seen they did."
And he added: "But he has done superbly and I'm absolutely delighted for him."
