Wayne Rooney has named Ryan Giggs as the best player ever in the Premier League as he "could do things no one else could do".
Giggs came through the youth ranks at United and long before he made his debut in the first team there was plenty of talk about him.
Making his debut aged 17, he was compared to George Best and he didn't disappoint through his career as he scored stunning goals along the way to lifting a succession of trophies.
He went on to lift 13 Premier League titles, more than any other player.
And for Rooney it was his wing wizardry that made him the best.
"There's Messi, Maradona, George Best, Ronaldo, but for me the one looking at Premier League history I'd have to say Giggsy, he could do things no one else could do in training even at older age," said Rooney.
And he told how Giggs would also show his immense talent during training.
"He used to catch out the players all the time when he looked to cross it and he'd score near post across him. With no look, he'd look one way and score the other way.
"How he could still manipulate the ball in the time I played with him, in tight areas, through areas, he could take free kicks - and he has won 13 league titles."
Rooney joined United in 2004 but he still shared the dressing room with Giggs for 10 years which showed the longevity of the Welshman.
"Over the past 10 years of his career he adapted," continued Rooney, who said that it wasn't alway easy for Giggs but he was able to reinvent himself.
"When I first signed for Manchester United he was being booed by the fans and there was talk of him going to Inter Milan and then he adapted his game.
"If you look at the first part of his career when you look at the goals he scored and the importance of the goals."
There have been many iconic moments in his career but perhaps his solo goal against Arsenal in the 1999 FA Cup semi-final replay is the goal looking back which is now most talked about.
He picked up the ball up from a loose Patrick Vieira pass in his own half, accelerated over 50 yards, leaving behind the Arsenal midfield behind, beating three international defenders before rifling a shot over keeper David Seaman.
Rooney has also commented on the way that Giggs was brave in the way "he wasn't afraid to lose the ball".
And Giggs himself says that was how he was coached to play.
"It's how the manager wanted you to play, if I got the ball and didn't try and take the defender on them I'm coming off," said Giggs.
"Or if I go to take him on, come back and pass the ball, it's 'no, no, what are you doing'."
Dribbling and beating players was his forte, whereas David Beckham on the other wing was an amazing crosser of the ball.
I remember when Becks came in the team I started passing it a bit more as I was looking at Becks and thinking how easy it looked, but I wasn't Becks he was the best crosser of the ball there has ever been," Giggs told Rio Ferdinand.
"I remember the boss calling me and telling me 'just remember who you are, you're not David Beckham, you're Ryan Giggs, you take players on'.
"And I was about five or six years into my career by then so you're always learning but I was always taught, take the defender on 10 times, you lose it nine times don't worry about it, the 10th time you'll win the game."
