Manchester United teenager Shea Lacey is being touted to the top after recently training with the England senior squad.
Lacey, a right winger and attacking midfielder, also struck twice against Crystal Palace's U21s and has been training sometimes with
Ruben Amorim's first team.
The 18-year-old winger, one of the most highly rated prospects in
United’s academy, joined Thomas Tuchel’s group at St George’s Park in the last international break.
He was initially called up to the England Under-20s, but his standout performances at
youth level have prompted senior staff to include him in first-team preparations.
The call-up marks another milestone in what has been a rapid rise for the talent, who only signed his first professional contract with United in 2024.
Known for his dazzling footwork, creativity and deadly left foot, Lacey has already drawn comparisons with former United favourite Ryan Giggs.
In a statement, Manchester United congratulated their academy graduate, saying Lacey had “earned invaluable experience working alongside some of the country’s top professionals.”
The club added that the exposure “will only accelerate his development” as he pushes for a senior debut at Old Trafford.
Lacey has impressed coaches this season with his performances for United’s Under-21 side, where he has contributed goals and assists in Premier League 2. His skill, vision and set-piece ability have made him one of the standout players in the academy setup.
England staff have been monitoring his progress for several months, and insiders say Tuchel and his coaching team were keen to “get a closer look” at the youngster during this international break.
United Under-21 coach Travis Binnion recently praised the teenager’s potential, saying: “You have to be blind not to see the talent he’s got. He could be a top, top player if he keeps working hard.”
Although a full debut for England remains some way off, this invitation is seen as a clear indication of Lacey’s growing reputation at both club and international level. For Manchester United, it is yet another reminder that their academy pipeline remains as strong as ever.
