Rio Ferdinand says that Manchester United shouldn't view the Nottingham Forest result negatively and see it as a point gained.
"The first thing that I thought was what tone is the manager going to set in that changing room when he walks in there?," said Ferdinand after the 2-2 draw away.
"Because there's no doubt, they've won a couple of games on the spin, rebuilding confidence and trying to build some momentum, which is fine. And then drawing a game at Forest where people will go, "You know what? They should beat Forest. They expect to beat Forest. New managers come in, etc."
United were looking for a fourth straight win after a change in fortunes but conceded two goals after going ahead and needed Amad Diallo to salvage a draw.
"The tone that the manager sets once he gets in that changing room and when they leave that ground was vitally important and the tone that I suggest is this isn't two points drops, this is a point gained," said Ferdinand.
"I threw myself into when I was in changing rooms when when you were fighting for the leagues which is different I know, but still there has to be someone in there that sets that tone that can really kind of adjust the mindset.
"I think it can quite easily get into a position where you come in and you go oh we should have won that man and, we expected to win. That disappointment then, it hits the nervousness in the change room. It creeps back into being a bit negative. You can't have that when you're on the trajectory that we're on at the moment where you're trying to build and you're trying to put the pieces in place to build some confidence."
He added that he thinks the team is improving on last season, especially in the way they fought back and got a draw.
Ferdinand continued: "Last season, we lose that game. Two goals away from home in quick succession, the ground up, their team lifted as well. We probably lose it three or four, one. We hung in there, got to the end of the fire, and got our point.
"We got our point, and I think that's one, you have to take it like that. And I think the way you draw a game sometimes, you win it late like that. And even Amad had another chance at the end, saved off the line."
