Marcus Rashford is open to making his loan move to Aston Villa permanent this summer, marking a dramatic U-turn in his stance on leaving Manchester United.
Initially expected to pursue a move abroad amid links to Barcelona and clubs in the Saudi Pro League, Rashford has now set his sights on staying in the Premier League — and specifically at Villa Park, where he has rediscovered form and regular football.
Sources close to the forward say his experience under Unai Emery has “revived his confidence” after a turbulent start to the 2024–25 season.
The 27-year-old forward was loaned out in January following a fallout with United manager Rúben Amorim, amid concerns over discipline and performance levels.
Rashford has since registered 4 goals and 6 assists for Villa, impressing with his pace, movement, and renewed work ethic.
“Marcus feels trusted again and is enjoying his football,” a source reportedly told UTD District. “He’s not made a final decision, but Aston Villa is now a real option for him.”
The permanent move would reportedly cost Villa around £40 million, although United are said to be open to negotiation, especially with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) forcing them to raise funds through sales this summer.
Rashford, who has been with Manchester United since the age of seven, has made over 380 appearances for the club, scoring 124 goals.
But with United entering a squad rebuild under Amorim, his long-term role at Old Trafford has come under serious doubt.
Villa, who are pushing for a top-six finish, are expected to back Emery in the summer market.
Rashford, with Premier League experience and the ability to play across the front line, would be a statement addition — and one that signals Villa’s intent to cement their place among the league’s elite.
If Rashford does make the switch, it would bring an emotional end to his near two-decade journey at Old Trafford — and give him a fresh start at one of the Premier League’s most ambitious clubs.
