Mason Greenwood is keen to reunite with former
Manchester United teammate Paul Pogba at Olympique Marseille.
Greenwood, 23, was suspended by
United in 2022 following charges of attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behavior.
He denied all charges, which were eventually dropped, but the forward’s association with the club ended.
After a loan spell at Getafe, Greenwood joined Marseille, where he has revitalized his career, scoring 13 goals and registering two assists in 18 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
His performances earned him the league’s December Player of the Month award.
In a recent interview with Telefoot, Greenwood shared his ambitions at Marseille.
"Stay here for many years? Of course. It's something I'd like to do. I want to win trophies here and play in the Champions League. It’s a big ambition to be here, so yes," he stated.
While Greenwood declined to address questions about his past during the interview, he spoke openly about football-related topics, including the possibility of playing alongside Pogba again.
"He’s a great man, a professional who has taken me under his wing," Greenwood said. "He’s a top player. Any team in Europe would love to have him. If he came here, it would be great."
Greenwood and Pogba shared the Manchester United dressing room for four years before Pogba’s departure in 2022.
Pogba’s career faced a significant setback in 2023 when he was banned for failing a drugs test while at Juventus.
Initially suspended for four years, his sentence was reduced to 18 months upon appeal, making him eligible to return to professional football in March 2025.
Speaking about his future, Pogba revealed he is actively seeking a new club to resume his career.
"There are proposals, some of which are interesting and some not so much—Russia and so on," Pogba recently told reporters.
"But that is not the goal. A club that plays in the Champions League? Why not? If it comes, of course, why not?
"We always want to join the best clubs. After that, it doesn’t depend on me; it depends on many other things."
Whether Pogba’s path leads to a reunion with Greenwood at Marseille remains uncertain, but Greenwood's comments underline the respect and camaraderie shared between the two players.
