Manchester United winger Anthony Martial had an atrocious discipline record at the club, revealed Phil Jones.
Martial, who now plays for AEK Athens, accumulated numerous fines due to poor time management during his tenure at United, says the former defender.
In many ways Martial sums up the underachievement of United in recent seasons. He arrived with plenty of expectation as clubs around Europe including Barcelona had expressed an interest in him.
But while he clearly had plenty of talent he never produced it on a regular basis and too often looked like he wasn't giving his best.
Poor time management
After retiring from professional football, Jones turned his eyes towards punditry and coaching.
Recently, he was asked about the player with the biggest reputation for being late during his time at United. Jones disclosed it was Anthony Martial.
According to him, Martial was often late to training sessions, meetings, and most alarmingly, bus departures, highlighting a clear pattern of disregard for punctuality.
Jones also noted that the French forward's habit of tardiness often resulted in fines. However, these penalties apparently were not a major concern for Martial. Jones concluded that Martial was among the most fined players in United's dressing room.
Despite his disregard for training and giving his best he was repeatedly given chances at United and has only just now left the club.
Under new coach Ruben Amorim hopefully the club can go down the road of bringing in players at value for money and then motivate them to produce their best.
As for Jones since retiring from active playing, Jones has started working towards a coaching career, alongside his punditry.
He spent time with United's Under-14 and Under-18 teams last season, clearly utilizing his vast experience in the Premier League to help mould the next generation of footballers.
