Manchester United are reportedly considering allowing goalkeeper
André Onana to make his loan move to Trabzonspor permanent just over a year after his high-profile arrival at Old Trafford.
Onana, 29, joined the Turkish side on a season-long loan during the summer after losing his starting spot under
Rúben Amorim.
While the deal did not include a purchase option,
The Sun reports that United’s hierarchy are now open to a permanent sale following the Cameroon international’s impressive start in the Süper Lig.
Since his arrival, Onana has produced a string of commanding performances — including a clean sheet and a viral long-range assist in a 2–1 win over Gaziantep.
His confident displays have quickly won over Trabzonspor fans, and the club are said to be exploring ways to make the deal long-term, even though United initially saw it as a temporary reset for the keeper.
For United, the decision appears to be driven by both footballing and financial factors. The club paid around £47 million to sign Onana from Inter Milan in 2023, but with Senne Lammens and Altay Bayındır now competing for the No. 1 shirt, Amorim is thought to be content with his current options.
Offloading Onana permanently could free up wages and generate funds for reinforcements elsewhere in the squad.
However, the situation remains fluid. Sources close to United insist that no formal discussions have yet taken place, while Trabzonspor would need to meet both the player’s wage expectations and United’s valuation — believed to be between £25–30 million.
For Onana, the prospect of stability and regular football could prove decisive after a turbulent period in Manchester. While his future remains uncertain, his resurgence in Turkey has reminded observers of the ability that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting goalkeepers.
If the move does become permanent, it would mark a swift and surprising end to one of United’s most high-profile transfer experiments of recent years.
