Manchester United’s latest arrival, Belgian goalkeeper
Senne Lammens, has described himself as an “all-round” player in his first interview since sealing a deadline-day move from Royal Antwerp.
The 23-year-old spoke candidly about his attributes, ambitions, and role models, as he prepares to begin training with his new teammates at Carrington.
“I’m Quite All-Round”
When asked to sum up his style of play,
Lammens emphasised his versatility: “I’m quite all-round, I take pride in that… I like to play from the back also with the team, at my feet.
"I like to help the team with controlling the space behind the defence, helping my defenders. And, of course, if you want to be a top goalkeeper at this level, you have to be a good shot-stopper, so I think I’m an all-round [keeper].”
Eager to make the next step in his career, he added: “I can improve also and I’m already eager to start training and improving so that I can take the next step.”
Inspired by Courtois and Neuer
Lammens revealed that his footballing idols were two of the game’s elite modern goalkeepers.
“My inspirations when I got older and became a goalkeeper were Manuel Neuer or Thibaut Courtois, the same nationality, so you look up to them a lot,” he said.
Record-Breaking Season
The Belgian comes to Old Trafford on the back of a standout campaign with Antwerp, where he made more saves than any goalkeeper in Europe’s top ten leagues.
“Last season was a little bit of everything coming together, … if you see the stats, it’s what I’ve worked for my entire life, so it’s really nice last season that I could show myself to the outside world,” he said.
Scoring Memories
Lammens also recalled one of the most unique moments of his career, when he scored a late equaliser as a teenager for Club Brugge’s Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League against Real Madrid.
“It was also kind of a dream come true, if you can help your team in these last minutes, so that’s also something very nice to look back on,” he told

Looking Ahead
Signed as part of United’s deadline-day shake-up, Lammens is determined to prove himself at Old Trafford and sees the move as the perfect platform to build on last season’s momentum.
With inspiration drawn from Courtois and Neuer, and confidence in his “all-round” skillset, the Belgian is eager to show he can contribute immediately to United’s new era.
