Amad Diallo gave a message to the manager that he was "hungry" for success after ripping apart Manchester City in the derby.
"I have been waiting for a long time to have this moment,"
Amad told MUTV post-match.
"I have been working so hard every day to have this moment, to live this moment, and I am so happy the team is very happy with me because I am a chilled guy."
And he added: "This is a derby and you have to be more angry than them and we showed we're hungry."
Amad ran riot as
United stunned Pep Guardiola's City with a dramatic 2-1 victory at the Etihad, leaving the Catalan boss reeling and sending a clear message to his critics.
The Ivorian winger was the hero of the hour, scoring twice to secure a famous victory for the Red Devils, who have been struggling for consistency this season.
Josko Gvardiol had given City the lead with a header, but Amad turned the game on its head with two moments of brilliance.
Firstly, he capitalized on a horrendous error from Matheus Nunes, drawing a penalty that Bruno Fernandes calmly converted.
But Amad was not finished there. The winger then produced a moment of individual brilliance, rounding Ederson and slotting home to send the away end into raptures.
"Amad was outstanding," raved former United captain Gary Neville on Match of the Day.
"Talk about a player trying to impress a new manager and showing he was right to select him. And what he's done now is he's said to the manager, 'you can't leave me out'."
The victory was a major statement from United, who have struggled to compete with City in recent seasons.
However, the headlines were also dominated by the shock omission of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from the matchday squad.
Manager
Ruben Amorim admitted that the duo had not been meeting the required standards in training and off the pitch, sending a clear message to the squad that complacency will not be tolerated.
"There are some things that have to change," Amorim stated. "But it is a new life, it's not a disciplinary thing. If it was disciplinary, I would say that here and it will be a bigger problem, but it wasn't that.
"I want to improve my players and you understand that for so long we tried, for example, with Rash. It does not work. Let's continue to do the same thing or try something different?
"So it's as simple as that. We have to improve our standards outside the pitch. If they train well and they are better than the other guys inside and outside the pitch, they will play or be on the bench."
The decision to drop two of the club's biggest stars sent shockwaves through the club, with reports suggesting that United are now open to offers for Rashford in the January transfer window.
While the future of both players remains uncertain, one thing is certain: Amad has announced himself as a star in the making.
His two-goal heroics will be remembered for years to come as United inflicted further misery on Guardiola and his struggling City side.
