Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is set to make his first signing with the club.
Reports suggest that
United have 'agreed a fee' to sign Diego Leon, a talent from Cerro Porteno.
Despite a challenging start as head coach having garnered only four points from his inaugural four Premier League games, Amorim's move to secure Leon is a testament to his commitment to the team's long-term development.
According to sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, United are in active talks with Cerro Porteno for 17-year-old left back Leon as a player for the future.'
This approach mirrors United's continued efforts to secure promising talents worldwide. Leon's $4m deal is still under discussion with his agents, it seems negotiations are firmly underway.
Leon: A player 'viewed highly'
In a recent interview with Transfermarkt, ESPN's Paraguayan football expert Roberto Rojas vouched for Leon's potential.
He claimed the burgeoning player is 'definitely viewed highly because of his talent,' and further lauded his resilience, versatility, and growing prominence in Paraguayan football.
Off the field, Amorim is reportedly planning to trim United's squad in the new year.
He's 'sentenced' three stars who he deems not valuable for the club's future success. Antony, Christian Eriksen, and Marcus Rashford have reportedly been asked to 'pack their bags.'
Rashford, in particular, is reported to be suffering a dip in form and has been 'offered' to Barcelona. In this context, securing promising future talent like Leon becomes even more significant.
The move for Leon would also fit in well with Amorim's wish to play a 3-4-3 formation with wing-backs pressing forward and he currently lacks players with these qualities at the moment.
Leon would play on the left which is particularly an area where the team is lacking at the moment due to continual injuries for Luke Shaw.
Leon has made 21 appearances for Cerro Porteno, scoring two goals, and was an unused substitute for both legs of a recent Copa Sudamericana tie with Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense.
The youngster is considered one of the hottest talents in South America and is physically advanced for his age, with speed, height, and athleticism in his game.
