Manchester United have reached an ‘agreement’ with prolific striker
Victor Osimhen, who is likely to head to Old Trafford this summer, per reports.
According to AfricaFoot, “an agreement has already been signed between Osimhen and
Manchester United with a view to a transfer in the summer of 2025, information revealed by a member of his entourage”.
The report adds that Osimhen “could leave Napoli permanently this summer” despite being contracted by them until 2026. The transfer fee is “estimated at between €30m (£26m) and €35m (£30m)”.
Osimhen is said to be keen to move to the Premier League to “take his career to the next level” and the “agreement” with
Man Utd makes Old Trafford his likeliest destination.
The 26-year-old was dropped from Napoli’s squad last summer after he tried to force an exit to either Chelsea or Al-Nassr, who both held talks with him.
Osimhen was subsequently sent on loan to Galatasaray, where he has scored an incredible 29 goals in 34 games this season.
Although Osimhen has a €75m (£63.6m, $82.6m) release clause in his Napoli contract, that only applies to clubs outside of Italy, with previous reports suggesting a lower fee could be agreed.
Indeed, the AfricaFoot report claims a €30m-€35m deal is on the cards, representing a bargain for a player of Osimhen’s pedigree.
The Nigeria international has also been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, but United have stolen a march.
Ruben Amorim has made the signing of a new centre-forward a top priority after watching his side struggle in attack.
Man Utd have scored a paltry 38 goals in 32 Premier League games this season, with only the bottom three teams scoring fewer.
Rasmus Hojlund has just eight goals in all competitions, while Joshua Zirkzee – who is out for the season with a hamstring injury – has failed to impress.
Hojlund is also the subject of interest from Serie A clubs, with a £52m move to Juventus mooted, which could pave the way for Osimhen’s arrival.
Man Utd are not in a strong position to make big-money signings due to Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
However, funds generated from selling players such as Hojlund, Marcus Rashford – who is the subject of a possible swap deal with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins – and Casemiro, who is being linked with Roma, could make a deal possible.
United are also in the market for a new right wing-back, with Flamengo’s Wesley a £25m target, and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta has also been linked.
Osimhen’s potential arrival could be a statement of intent from Amorim, who guided United to a 5-4 extra-time win over Lyon on Thursday to reach the Europa League semi-finals.
That result has kept their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League alive, which may have been a factor in Osimhen’s decision to agree a deal.
United’s next test is against Wolves on Sunday, before facing Bournemouth, Brentford and then Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final on May 1.
